Business Systems Analyst

Job purpose

  • To provide world-class software development solutions for the assyst product suite
  • Develop software concepts to support multiple access channels with associated user interfaces satisfying the needs of a diverse set of users
  • Provide technical support and consultancy for the assyst product suite
  • To support the Sales and Professional Services teams.

Job responsibilities

  • Liaise with Professional Services, Sales and Marketing stakeholders to understand business drivers and identify system requirements
  • Identify real business needs from suggestions and requests
  • Collaborate closely throughout the iterative development process with colleagues within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure all have a common understanding of the requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Agree on the most appropriate solution while considering both product evolution and customer needs
  • Capture clear and concise acceptance criteria for product enhancements
  • Recommend enhancement priorities and negotiate phased increments
  • Develop and maintain expert-level product knowledge and share with colleagues and customers as required
  • Collaborate closely with analysis colleagues to continually improve practices

Skills and Experience


  • A minimum of five years systems analysis experience of gathering and capturing the functional requirements for a large and complex system
  • Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle
  • Managing backlogs using User Stories and capturing agreed system behaviour as structured acceptance criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills and a strong attention to detail
  • The confidence, comfort and instinct required to interact with and drive consensus across multiple stakeholders, including executives.
  • A customer-oriented personality exhibiting professionalism and enthusiasm at all times
  • Good written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately to meet tight timescales
  • Proven ability to work independently at a detailed level with limited supervision as well as working effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and be able to context-switch between projects as required


  • Computing or Business degree (BSc, MSc), or equivalent or relevant experience
  • Experience of capturing non-functional requirements
  • A strong technical mind with the ability to quickly extract, synthesize, and relay, key information from multiple sources without becoming overwhelmed
  • Experience of using agile methodologies, such as Scrum, OpenUP or FDD (Feature Driven Development) to manage complex projects
  • Domain knowledge of IT Service Management or ITIL or IT Operations Management
  • Good experience in areas of IT Asset Management and Software Licence Optimisation such as:
  1. an understanding of software licensing and license compliance
  2. patch management
  3. automated software deployment
  4. system monitoring and alerting (Event Management)
  • Experience of using an agile planning tool
  • Knowledge of interface design for usability and user experience
