World beater Axios Systems takes Scottish software title
The firm, which specializes in Help Desk and IT Service Management (ITSM) solutions, won the title at the annual Software Awards sponsored by Scottish Enterprise and presented in Glasgow. Judges praised its ability to provide global solutions to help customers successfully manage their IT services.
It is the latest in a series of successes for Axios Systems (www.axiossystems.com), whose assyst product has been voted the best solution by the Help Desk Institute for the past two years in succession.
Founded in 1988 by husband-and-wife team Tasos and Ailsa Symeonides, Axios Systems now employs more than 160 staff in the UK, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Australia, the USA and Canada. It has several hundred public sector and blue chip private sector customers, including many internationally known household names.
"This is another significant milestone in Axios Systems' rapid development and encourages us even more to take on and beat some of the biggest and best known computer companies in the world," Mrs Symeonides said. "It is a ringing endorsement that Scottish companies can compete successfully in global markets."

Earlier this year Axios Systems became the first organization in the world to successfully achieve certification for BS15000, the first worldwide standard specifically aimed at ITSM. A key to its success was use of assyst, its core software solution, which provided the auditors with data which helped prove the company's adherence to the standard in Edinburgh. assyst supports all IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) disciplines in a single, integrated out-of-the-box product.
William Nisen, Executive Director of the Kelvin Institute - the Glasgow-based facility for research, innovation and commercialization - said quality accreditation would play a key part in the continuing recovery of Scotland's software sector. Speaking at the Awards ceremony, he said customers needed to be confident that products on offer were of dependable quality.
"Scottish software companies have consistently demonstrated their ability to write innovative software. Technology built here is currently being used in all sorts of applications around the world," Nisen commented.
