Edinburgh, UK – Tasos Symeonides, the founder and CEO of Axios Systems has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by ScotlandIS at an award ceremony in The Prestonfield House Hotel, Edinburgh.

ScotlandIS recognise the expertise, know-how and business acumen prevalent in Scottish software companies and the contribution they make to the industry and the Scottish economy. The awards party brings together the most innovative companies and individuals in the Scottish software community to celebrate excellence.

Following his graduation from Glasgow University with Honours in Computing and an MSc in Statistics, Tasos began his career in systems analyst roles for Burroughs (now Unisys) and the Royal Bank of Scotland. From there he moved to NCR, followed by a three year post with the Commercial Bank of Kuwait. He later became a project manager for major retailer John Menzies, progressing to become Head of IT for Retail Systems. It was here that he identified the large gap in the market for an automated ITSM solution based on industry Best Practice. Tasos along with his wife Ailsa founded Axios Systems in 1988 based at their home near Edinburgh, later moving to the city centre where its headquarters remains.

With over 35 years’ experience in the IT industry, Tasos continues to be actively involved in the strategic development and direction of Axios' IT Service Management product, assyst. In 2001 Tasos was presented with the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the computing services category for Scotland. In 2004 and 2005, Axios Systems received the Scottish Software Company of the Year Award and received the award for International Excellence in 2006.

Polly Purvis, Executive Director at ScotlandIS said, "Tasos Symeonides has built Axios into one of the leading software companies in Scotland, with an enviable export record and offices around the world. Their assyst software is a global market leader. From its beginnings 23 years ago Tasos has understood and executed on the complexities of building an internationally competitive software product company, providing an exemplar for other software entrepreneurs. We are delighted to have made this award to Tasos in recognition of his hard work and resulting success."

Mr Symeonides said, “Although Axios Systems is a global company our roots remain firmly in Scotland, and so I am extremely honoured and delighted to have received this recognition from ScotlandIS.”
