BT Syntegra prescribes assyst for patient records system

July 13, 2004

Axios Systems' award-winning assyst software has been selected by BT Syntegra as its Help Desk and IT Service Management system for the new NHS patient records database.

BT Syntegra, BT's expert in business transformation and change management, was awarded the contract to design, deliver and manage the national patient records database and transactional messaging service by the Department of Health last December. The new service will enable the electronic transfer of prescriptions and introduction of computerised appointment booking.

At the same time as it was awarded the £620 million deal, BT announced it had also won the £996 million London Local Service Provider contract.

These projects, part of the NHS National Programme for Information Technology, involve the creation of electronic summary records for all NHS patients in England. These secure records will be shared with clinicians and medical practitioners, depending on their access authority.

BT Syntegra will install assyst as its 'tool of choice' for management of the central data 'spine' as well as using it in its role as the Local Service Provider for London, one of five LSPs established as part of the NHS' National Programme for IT. The Service Desks will be set up and managed from BT Syntegra's UK Service Centre based in Leeds.

Axios Systems, voted best in its field by the Help Desk Institute for two years in succession, was recently named Software Company of the Year 2004 by Scottish Enterprise and Targeting Innovation. Its solution will be used for Incident, Problem, Change, Release and Configuration Management.

Ailsa Symeonides, Sales and Marketing Director of Axios Systems (www.axiossystems.com), said: "The choice of assyst as part of such a world class service is another assured vote of confidence in our product. We are looking forward to playing our part in improving the quality of care provided to NHS patients by helping ensure the best possible performance of the IT systems concerned."

BT Syntegra wanted to replace its current bespoke IT Service Management (ITSM) tool with a product which complies with the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®), internationally accepted guidelines for Best Practice in IT Service Management. Axios is working with BT Syntegra to migrate more than 60 contracts from this system, using assyst's Customer Service Groups facility which allows database segmentation.

One of the conditions for winning the contract was that the system supplier had to achieve certification for BS15000, the new worldwide standard specifically aimed at ITSM, within 18 months. Axios Systems recently announced that it was the first organisation in the world to gain BS15000.

Steve Spratt, Vice-President, Global Services, of Axios Systems, commented: "assyst gives BT Syntegra a robust and stable platform which provides the functionality it needs to manage its customers."
