Half ITSM market investigating BS15000, Axios survey finds

August 12, 2004

Almost half the organizations questioned in a new survey are researching BS15000, the first worldwide standard specifically aimed at IT Service Management (ITSM).

Only 19% told leading ITSM software specialist Axios Systems (www.axiossystems.com) they were not aware of BS15000, which is based on the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL®), the internationally accepted Best Practice framework for ITSM.

More than one-third described the new standard as very important and 44% said they believed it might be important in the future.

A total of 47% said they were currently carrying out research on BS15000 while 14% told Axios, which questioned some 200 IT support professionals, that they had an ongoing project to achieve certification.

Ailsa Symeonides, Sales and Marketing Director of Axios Systems, said the survey indicated there was already a powerful groundswell of support for the standard, for which the first certificates were given out only a few months ago.

“BS15000 is a very significant development in ITSM since it allows an IT department to prove to the business that it is following best practice,” she commented. “Leading research organization Gartner has indicated that BS15000 is well on its way to becoming a full ISO standard so it is heartening that organizations are clearly taking it very seriously.”

Mrs Symeonides cautioned, however, that even more work was needed to promote the standard and its benefits, pointing out that almost one in five of those questioned said they had not heard of it and one in five thought it was not relevant to their organisation.

More than two-thirds of respondents in the Axios survey said their organization was committed to ITIL®.

The BS15000 certification scheme was established by the IT Service Management Forum (itSMF) to promote adoption of an integrated set of processes for the effective management and delivery of quality IT services to meet business and customer needs.
